What Can I Do About My Aging, Thinning Lips?

Many individuals feel self-conscious when aging signs begin to emerge. Some people show signs of aging much sooner, while others may show few signs until much later in life. One sign of aging that many dislike is that of aging, thinning lips.

Whether there are wrinkles and fine lines around your lips, or your lips are no longer plump and youthful, there is a cosmetic treatment to fit your needs. Enhancing and rejuvenating the lips is very popular, and Dr. Naderi has a great deal of experience with a variety of procedures that can enhance the lips and give them the desired appearance you long for.

Looking for Luscious Lips Without Surgery?

If you are interested in enhancing your lips but not so keen on surgery, then dermal fillers may be the best option for you. It’s important to remember, however, that this is not a permanent solution and that treatment will need to be repeated periodically in order to maintain results.

Dermal fillers are performed by injection with a syringe to the desired area of the body, in this case the lips. They are administered during a simple office visit and can take anywhere from 30 minutes to an hour to complete. Dermal fillers have a tendency to last anywhere from 6 months to a year or maybe even longer depending on the type of filler that is used. Many individuals find that they love having a solution to their aging, thinning lips that does not require a surgical procedure or any significant amount of downtime and recovery afterward. At most, there may be some swelling or redness around the lips, but most individuals find they can immediately resume their regular activities.

Varying Fillers for Varying Needs

Dr. Naderi uses a variety of dermal fillers depending on the individual circumstances. Hyaluronic acid fillers are some of the most popular fillers, and these include Restylane and Juvederm.

Restylane is a very common filler treatment that is used to help enhance different areas of the body, but it is most commonly used to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles on the face. In addition, it is the number one filler used for a lip augmentation. Restylane is a great filler to consider if you would like to get a little bit of everything done to your lips at a time. With this one filler, the fine lines and wrinkles around the lips can be smoothed over and it can also provide a youthful plump to your lips if thinning is a concern. This FDA-approved filler is comprised of a natural substance, hyaluronic acid, that is already found in the body, making it very unlikely to be rejected by the body. The lifespan for this filler lasts for about six to nine months. When used around the mouth where there is a lot of movement, however, the results may only last about six months.

Juvederm is another popular dermal filler that is used on different areas of the face, commonly around the mouth for lines and wrinkles. This is a long-lasting gel filler that can not only reduce the look of lines and wrinkles, but also rejuvenate the look of the skin to give it a more youthful appearance. Just like Restylane, the substance that is used within Juvederm is hyaluronic acid. Juvederm is available in three different formulations which are chosen based on the layer of skin being treated. For both Restylane and Juvederm, the results begin to show immediately once the procedure is completed.

Looking for a One-Time Permanent Solution

If you are looking for a more permanent or even semi-permanent solution to your lip dilemma, then a more invasive surgical procedure may be the route you want to take. There are a few different options available when it comes to a more permanent solution for lip augmentation. If you are interested in improving the top lip because it is very thin and does not have much contour to it, then a lip lift may be the perfect solution. During a lip lift, the top thin, long lip becomes shorter and more contoured. By making the top lip more contoured the youthfulness is brought back into the lips.

If you are interested in treating both the top and lower lips, then lip implants may be a good option to consider. The Permalip Implants that Dr. Naderi offers provide his patients with fuller, more youthful lips that also help to reduce the look of fine lines and wrinkles around the lips. The implant is placed around the wet-dry border of the lips to provide a more natural appearance rather than the “duck lip” appearance of the past. The downtime for the procedure only lasts about a week.
