Great Anti-Aging Tips From the Stars

Great Anti-Aging Tips From the StarsSometimes, celebrities hit the nail on the head when it comes to revealing the ways they keep their skin looking fresh. You don’t have to make multi-million dollar movies or star in a hit TV show to copy the following great pieces of advice.

Moisturizer Is a Secret Weapon

If you take a look at a picture of actress Catherine Zeta-Jones 10 years ago and a picture of her today, she looks almost the same. Her secret? Using moisturizer. While moisturizer won’t erase wrinkles you already have, it will keep your skin soft and plump and will make wrinkles look less noticeable. Zeta-Jones isn’t the only star who swears by using moisturizer. Actress Demi Moore also cites it as one of the most important parts of her beauty routine. She makes sure to moisturize regularly throughout the day, and never to skip it.

Stay Out of the Sun

Another major tip from the stars, particularly from celebrities with paler skin tones, is to avoid sun exposure as much as possible. While each star has a different reason for avoiding the sun, it adds up to less aging for them. Exposure to the UV rays of the sun plays a major role when it comes to external causes of aging.

Among the celebs who eschew sunlight as much as they can are Nicole Kidman, who has very fair skin and who had a skin cancer scare when she was younger, and Julianna Margulies, who also has a very pale complexion. Margulies makes sure to use a fair amount of sun protection to keep the sun’s rays from doing much damage.

It’s generally recommended that you wear an SPF of at least 30 everyday, whether it’s sunny or cloudy. Reapply the sunscreen every two hours or so throughout the day.

Exfoliate

It’s not just wrinkles that make you look older. Dull skin also ages you. Your skin becomes dull when dead skin cells pile up, reducing cell turnover. Exfoliating regularly removes the dead cells, allowing fresh, new skin to show through. It’s also an anti-aging tip celebrities such as Halle Berry swear by. While Berry has worked exfoliating into her daily routine, you might want to discuss your options with a facial plastic surgeon. It is possible to overdo it, leaving you with skin that’s irritated or splotchy.

You can exfoliate at home using a facial brush or scrub. A more in-depth option is to see a doctor for a treatment such as a chemical peel or laser skin resurfacing. There are many options when it comes to peels and laser treatments. If you just want a bit of exfoliation, a superficial or mild peel might be right for you. Deeper peels provide more dramatic results, but also generally have a longer recovery time.

Get Enough Sleep

Gwyneth Paltrow might be known for a few out-there beauty tips or for offering advice that’s beyond the reach of the average person. But she does have at least one realistic, solid piece of advice: to get enough sleep. When you don’t get a decent amount of sleep (about seven to nine hours per night), your skin suffers in a few ways. Inadequate sleep raises levels of the stress hormone cortisol, which can disrupt your skin cells. Getting enough sleep also gives your body time to reset, which can improve the appearance of your skin.

Think About Botox

Some celebrities steer clear of Botox and other injections, while others, such as Vanessa Williams, readily admit to using it. Depending on the type of wrinkles you have and the degree of aging on your face, Botox can be a relatively affordable and quick way to turn back the hands of time. The injections are commonly used to treat the two small vertical lines between the eyebrows and crow’s feet outside of the eyes.

Typically, results last about three months and many people, including Williams, have them repeated every three months. Your mileage may vary though, and you might find that you only need injections two or three times a year to get the results you want.
