Unsatisfied With Your Nose Surgery Results?

Rhinoplasty is one of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures out there. Unfortunately, it also has one of the highest revision rates, in large part because it’s one of the most complicated and intricate procedures to perform. In fact, even the top surgeons out there have patients who occasionally require revision.

There are all sorts of reasons why a patient may find themselves dissatisfied with their results, from unrealistic expectations to healing complications. Fortunately, revision rhinoplasty is an option for patients who are unhappy with their primary rhinoplasty results and seeking a fix.

Why Would I Not Be Happy With My Nose Surgery?

There are many reasons as to why a patient may not be satisfied with the results of their surgery. Sometimes, a patient has unrealistic expectations as to what the surgery can achieve, or the patient and doctor have not communicated sufficiently about the desired result.  For this reason, the consultation process is essential to ensure that doctor and patient are on the same page and expectations can be met.

Another reason for dissatisfaction may be surgical error or an under-qualified surgeon.  Even with a highly qualified surgeon like Dr. Naderi , complications can arise during the healing process that can affect the look and/or function of the nose.  In other cases, a patient may feel there are lingering problems with the nose or that their surgery under-corrected or over-corrected the nose.

Creating a United Vision for your Procedure

One of the most important steps in the rhinoplasty process occurs before surgery when you meet with your surgeon for a consultation. At this meeting, you will be able to discuss your goals and visions for surgery.  It’s essential that you and your surgeon are on the same page.   One tool that can help significantly with this process is computer imaging. The surgeon can digitally alter an image of your nose to show you projected results.  Together, you can tweak those results until it’s what you want. Keep in mind, however, that computer imaging is not always exact and the end result may be different, often better, than the digital version.

Adhering to Pre and Post-Operative Instructions

One way to better guarantee positive results is to follow all of your surgeons recommendations, both before and after surgery. If the patient does not follow instructions and maybe removes their splint a few days early, or blows their nose too soon or too hard, or even continues their daily strenuous routine against doctor’s orders, their results may suffer. This is especially true for quitting smoking before and after surgery as complications can arise otherwise. If you want to be fully satisfied with your results and get the best nose possible, follow your doctor’s orders.

Give It Time

Your nose is unlikely to look exactly how you want it right after surgery, and sometimes even weeks or months after surgery.  That’s because the final results are typically disguised by swelling, bruising and other side effects.  You’ll certainly see positive changes immediately after surgery, but those changes will continue to improve week by week as the swelling fades. Most patients find that their nose looks significantly swollen during the first two weeks of recovery. After four months, most of the noticeable swelling is gone.  However, it can take up to a full year for all of the swelling to fade and final results to appear. If you find yourself unhappy after rhinoplasty, give it time.

 Still Unsatisfied With Your Results?

If a patient is still unsatisfied with their results, Dr. Naderi may suggest revision rhinoplasty surgery to help get them where they want to be. Many patients who have gone to different doctors before, seek out Dr. Naderi to help them achieve the results they really want. If you are interested in scheduling a consultation appointment then you can contact Dr. Naderi’s office at 703-481-0002 (Herndon, VA Office) or 301-222-2020 (Chevy Chase, MD). We look forward to hearing from you.
